Fair Trade Event Recognition

The Manitoba Council for International Cooperation’s Fair Trade Manitoba program recognizes events within the province that demonstrate a commitment towards supporting Fair Trade. Such events may use a Recognized Fair Trade event logo on their promotional materials.

The criteria for such an event are as follows:

  • That, to the extent possible, the event serves fair trade food & beverages to those participating, eg. fair trade coffee, tea, hot chocolate, sugar, etc.
  • That, if any apparel or accessories are associated with the event, eg. t-shirts or tote bags, these be sourced as fair trade and/or no-sweat
  • That any fair trade products used are identified as fair trade through signage at the event
  • That every effort be made to use green products, such as reusable, recyclable and/or compostable plates, cups and cutlery, and to have a recycling system set up for the event
  • That the event includes educational/promotional information about fair trade
  • That a plan for the event describing adherence to the above criteria be submitted to Fair Trade Manitoba

Examples of recent events in Manitoba that Fair Trade Manitoba have recognized as a Fair Trade Event include the Winnipeg Folk Festival, the Matlock Festival of Music, Art and Nature and the Canadian CED Network Gathering.

If you wish to have your event recognized as Fair Trade, please download this form, and submit it to the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation. They will supply you with the Recognized Fair Trade Event logo.
