Fair Trade Procurement

Fair Trade Manitoba has focused considerable energy on engaging with institutional and business partners around the procurement (bulk purchasing) of fair trade products. Every time an individual consumer buys a single bag or even a shopping basket full of FT products, it makes a difference to Southern producers. However, when an organization, an office, a department or an institution shops for fair trade, the impact is that much bigger!

In recent years, we have had the privilege of working with MB Lotteries & Liquor, MB Government Procurement Services Branch, Assiniboine Credit Union, Winnipeg-based University Campuses, Evergreen School Division and other procurers in helping them find the fair trade information and products they desire. Based on economy of scale, quality fair trade products are available at better-than-expected prices, and Canadian fair trade businesses have the quantities to be dependable suppliers.

We are happy to advise institutional purchasers as they make the transition to fair trade products. In recent years, major product distributors have added fair trade options to their repertoires, so don’t hesitate to ask your current suppliers to make fair trade coffee, tea, hot chocolate and sugar available to you!
